Yogi: \yō-gē\: a beautiful soul who practices yoga
“Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.” A. Ashe
Beginning a yoga practice can stir up uncertainty….we understand! At Solfire, we are here to help you feel at home and to assure you that you don’t need to be able to twist like a pretzel or invert like an acrobat to practice yoga! All you need is a willingness to try. Just come as you are and do your best!
“Worrying is like praying for what you don’t want.” Unknown
It’s ok if you feel tight, inflexible, or even a bit reserved about trying yoga for the first time. Think about the first time you learned to ride a bike, drive a car, or do ANYTHING new. It takes time to feel comfortable. If you can breathe, you can do yoga. Our suggestion? Just show up and be willing to reach for the sky…or your toes! At Solfire, we are here to support you. Our teachers will encourage you to be right where you are without worrying about what the yogi next to you is doing.
“Every person, every body, every day is different.”
Each of us brings our own unique body type, experience, and personal abilities to the mat. Some days you may feel like a “rock star” yogi…other days you may want to move slowly and modify your poses. Through breath, movement and heat we will help you open your body, increase your strength and flexibility, and calm your mind. For suggestions on what to expect see our FAQ’s & Yoga Manners page.
Together we hope to help you recognize just how open you actually are. We are here to serve you, and we welcome you to our home.
We recommend that new students and visitors start with our Basics classes designed to teach basic movement, breath, and alignment. Also try our Foundations Workshops designed to help introduce you to yoga in a hands-on, interactive environment. If you have any questions, concerns, or time restraints please let us know so we can help you find the best way to acclimate. Over time, you will grow more comfortable with the poses and any class on our schedule. Just be patient and allow yourself to be new!
WHAT TO BRING
Roll out your mat. Wipe the sweat. Hydrate.
Bring a mat, towel and water for your practice. We also rent towels and mats at the studio for $2.00 each. If you would like to shower after class, be sure to bring your shower bag and an extra towel. Forgot your bath towel? Don’t sweat it…you’ll already be sweaty enough! We rent those also for $2.00.
